Postcards from the Bump

June 12, 2009

postcardWe’re not exactly sure what this upbeat book is – part pregnancy journal, part cookbook, part fetal development guide, part chick-lit extravaganza. Authors Ame & Emily declare that motherhood begins at conception and embark on a 200-page journey to familiarize moms with their bumps. Subject matter ranges from mock-tail recipes to maternity fashion suggestions to dad prep tips. Every few pages, readers are invited to chronicle a moment (some of my favorite things about being pregnant were, when I was pregnant I dreamed of, etc). Scientific findings (babies begin to learn language in utero) and humorous quotes are sprinkled throughout the text. Postcards may not necessarily the most practical prenatal guide (odds are, you’ll want a more detailed explanation of fetal development), but it’s a great gift.
