What to Expect When You’re Expecting

June 7, 2009

expect3Essentially the pregnancy bible, What to Expect is now in its fourth iteration. Authors Murkoff and Mazel are friendly and approachable as they move through pre-conception to early pregnancy to the final stretch. Topics range from what to eat and avoid to workplace maternity issues. Highlights include what to expect at your doctor visits, fetus development and the “what you may be wondering about” sections. Use it as your reference – it’s got a detailed index and nearly every pregnancy topic is covered. One caveat – some moms find the What to Expect series unnecessarily intimidating and overwhelming. At least one of our reviewers called the book “alarmist.” Our advice? Skim through it at the bookstore before bringing it home – it’s a pregnancy classic, but definitely not a necessity.
